One Layer
Two
In this High Impact Skill Activity, the defenders begin side by side in
a single layer (see diagram). They must work together to keep a lone dribbler
from getting through. If one defender backs up the other, the dribbler
has little chance.
Originally,
though, the defenders might remain in a single layer as both go to the
ball. If this happens, have one defender stop the ball while the other
provides backup. One defender can yell, “I’ve got ball!”
and the other can yell, “I’ll back you up!”

Rules
for One-Layer-Two
Course
Setup.
The game takes place on a Gauntlet course, thirty paces long and fifteen
paces wide. Only one defensive zone is required.
Starting Positions. Four to eight
players participate, in teams of two. One team begin inside the defensive
zone, the players side by side. Another defending team may wait to the
side. The other players, each with a ball, form a line at the end of the
course.
Object of the Game. One dribbler tries
to get past two defenders, eliminating them from contention. The last
team remaining wins.
How a Try Proceeds. The first dribbler begins dribbling forward. The defenders
may then move wherever they want to. They may approach the ball, backpedal,
or back each other up. The try ends if the ball is stolen or knocked off
the course. If the dribbler gets through the course, the defending team
is eliminated from contention.
How the Game Proceeds. After the first
try, the defenders become dribblers, and a new defending team steps in.
Teams that have been eliminated continue trying to eliminate others, but
may no longer win. The game continues until all but one team has been
eliminated, or until the time expires.
